Securing Windows

Securing Windows

If someone wanted to break into your Carlsbad, CA home, what do you think they would do? They might try the doors first and see if they are locked and secure. But after that, the best point of entry is a window. So how do you make sure your windows are as secure as possible? Here are a few tips to help you enjoy as much peace of mind as possible.

Tip 1: Lock Windows

It seems obvious, but not everyone keeps an eye on the window locks. Many burglars enter homes through windows that are simply left unlocked. Make sure your windows are locked whenever you aren’t home (especially if they are on the ground level and easily accessible). Make it a habit to lock the windows whenever you close them so you don’t have to wonder if you remembered or not.

Tip 2: Get Security Glass

Even if windows are locked, the glass can still be broken if someone really wants to get into your home. Impact resistant security glass is much harder to break than a regular window. The panes are fused together with a material that makes the windows more resilient and harder to break. You can throw a brick at these windows and they are protected. You will also feel more secure in bad storms.

Tip 3: Security Shutters

If you really want a defense against break-ins, security shutters are an option to consider. These shutters close over the windows on the outside to make the glass inaccessible completely. If you are going to go out of town and you are worried about someone breaking into your house, they are a good idea. But they also work well to block out the hot sun and increase sound insulation if you use them when you are home.

Tip 4: Security Bars

When you have bars on your windows, burglars might be able to break the glass, but they can’t squeeze through the opening to get into the house, so they often don’t even bother trying. You can get bars or grilles on the exterior or interior of your windows in various designs and colors to make them look stylish and more of a design than a burglar deterrent.
